The Korea National Arboretum of the Korea Forest Service announced on Tuesday that it registered 33 plants native to the Korean Peninsula on the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
 
The effort came jointly with a group of South Korean experts on the IUCN’s Species Survival Commission.
 
The 33 species include 12 types of trees, including the abeliophyllum distichum and pentactina rupicola, as well as 21 types of herbaceous plants, including the hanabusaya asiatica.
 
Currently, a total of 328 types of plants are designated as native Korean plants.
 
Established in 1948, the IUCN is the world’s largest environmental network that is dedicated to safeguarding the natural world.
 
To introduce the registered plants and promote their value, the Korea National Arboretum will hold an exhibition for a week starting from Wednesday.
