The population of North Korea surpassed 25 million last year.
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the population of North Korea was estimated at 25-point-15 million last year, up two-point-seven percent from 24-point-five million in 2010.
South Korea’s Korea Statistics estimated the country’s population at 51 million last year, with the inter-Korean population gap widening to 25-point-nine million.
Quoting data by the United States Central Intelligence Agency, Radio Free Asia said that North Korea has the 51st largest population among 238 countries, but ranked 157th in terms of population growth.
Data showed that the communist country is also becoming an aging society as its birth rate marked 14-point-five per one-thousand people, ranking 134th among countries, while the ratio of senior citizens aged 65 or older posted nine-point-nine percent.
