S. Korean Consumer Prices Rank Mid-to-Low in OECD

Overall consumer prices in South Korea have been found to rank in the middle to low range among members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD).

Statistics Korea said Saturday that the nation's comparative price levels were tallied to rank 22nd among 35 OECD member nations which include Latvia, a country in the process of gaining OECD membership.

Based on inflation in June and considering South Korea's price levels at 100, the index was most similar in Germany at 106 and Spain at 96.

Prices were lower in countries such as Greece, Portugal, Chile, Turkey and Hungary.

Inflation was nearly half of South Korea's in Mexico at 58 and Poland 55.

The most expensive country was Switzerland with a comparative price index of 171. Prices were also more than 30 percent higher in Denmark, Norway, Australia, Israel and the U.K.
