The nation’s exports have again decreased, after posting a moderate recovery last month.
The Korea Customs Service said Monday that exports came to 13-point-five billion U.S. dollars in the first ten days of September, down three-point-six percent from the same period last year.
In August, the nation’s monthly exports grew two-point-six percent, putting an end to a prolonged depression that lasted for 19 months from January last year to July this year.
However, there are rising concerns that exports could slide back to a downward slope, as Hanjin Shipping’s managerial crisis has upset outbound shipments. A government official said the situation will be carefully followed, although Hanjin’s portion in handling export shipments is not significant.
The nation saw an increase in exports of auto parts and ships this month, but a drop in those of semiconductors, petroleum products, wireless communication devices, passenger cars and liquid crystal devices.
By region, shipments to Hong Kong and Japan jumped, while those to China, the U.S. and the EU dwindled.
