A Japanese newspaper has reported that a North Korean defector has been sent to South Korea after he escaped from the regime and swam to Japan.
The Asahi Shimbun said Friday that a man in his 20s, who claimed to be a North Korean escapee, was found in Nagato in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, in July this year.
The paper quoted Japanese officials as saying he was recently transferred to South Korea after an investigation.
The man told Japanese authorities that he had dived into waters from a ship that departed from North Korea and swam to reach the coast of Japan.
He said he had escaped from the regime after he was caught watching South Korean videos by North Korean authorities in February this year.
The man was found near a port in Nagato, which is 100 kilometers southeast from South Korea’s eastern city of Ulsan, on July 16th this year.
