Gov't to Consider Logistics Support for Local Firms

The government will consider providing logistics support using planes and trains to minimize the damage of local exporters and importers stemming from the bankruptcy filing by Hanjin Shipping.

Vice Minister for Transport Choi Jeong-ho announced the plan on Monday during an emergency meeting with related industries.

Some of Hanjin’s ships remain stranded since its filing for bankruptcy protection last week, but it appears to have not caused massive logistics disruptions yet.

The vice minister, however, said that the government should closely monitor the situation and be prepared to respond to a potential logistics emergency. He said that the government will prepare for a possible surge in freight volume by increasing the number of cargo flights.
