Hanjin Shipping Vessels Seized, Operations Halted

Hanjin Shipping is facing a barrage of problems such as the seizure of vessels and being denied access to ports as it moves closer to filing for court receivership.

According to the company, a Singapore court seized one of its container ships, the five-thousand-308 TEU Hanjin Rome, on Tuesday. The German shipowner Rickmers applied for the seizure after Hanjin delayed charter payments for another vessel. Until the seizure is lifted, Hanjin will be prohibited from berthing or loading and unloading cargo.

Meanwhile, the container ship Hanjin Mexico, which the company had chartered, halted operations Tuesday. The shipowner PIL refused to sail due to a delay in charter fees, leading to complications in the transportation of shipments.
