Unification Ministry: Socialism Nominal in N. Korea

The Unification Ministry has assessed that socialism has become nominal in North Korea.

A ministry official unveiled the assessment on Tuesday amid possibilities that the North will exclude socialist expressions from the rules of its ruling party.

The official said the North's hereditary dictatorship structure is taking shape and its official ideology is changing from the “Juche” idea to the “Kim Il-sung-Kim Jong-il ideology.” The official said whether or not socialist expressions are used is not significant.

In the latest gathering of the Kim Il-sung Socialist Youth League, the North took out “socialist” from the name of the organization, changing it for the first time in 20 years to the “Kim Il-sung-Kim Jong-il Youth League.”

Regarding some media reports that the North’s agriculture and education ministers were executed, the official said Seoul is trying to confirm the reports.
