North Korea has hit back at the UN Security Council’s press statement, which condemned the regime's recent ballistic missile launches.
In its spokesman’s statement on Sunday, the North’s foreign ministry claimed that the UNSC and its followers found fault with the country's self-defense measures.
While calling its latest test-firing of a submarine-launched ballistic missile a nuclear deterrence measure, the ministry said that the U.S. is posing threats to its survival.
North Korea also said it will continue to take a series of "eventful action steps" as a full-fledged power.
On Friday, the UNSC members, including the North’s ally China, unanimously adopted a press statement strongly condemning the North’s recent ballistic missile launches, including the latest one fired from a submarine last week.
In the statement, the council also expressed "serious concern" that North Korea continued to carry out the ballistic missile and nuclear tests despite repeated opposition from the international community. The council said that it will take additional measures against the North.
The North’s latest SLBM was fired towards the East Sea off the port city of Sinpo, South Hamgyong Province and flew around 500 kilometers before it dropped 80 kilometers into the Japanese Air Defense Identification Zone.
