CDC: 2 Cholera Infections Due to Identical Type of Bacteria

Epidemiologists have found that the two recent cases of Cholera infection in South Korea are due to an identical type of bacteria.

The South Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) on Friday announced the result of its analysis on the two patients.

The CDC said that the bacteria samples extracted from the two cases have the same genetic characteristics, suggesting that an identical source of the disease have been spread to different patients.

With the two patients believed to have contracted the disease in the island city of Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, concerns have risen as to whether the Vibrio cholerae bacteria has originated from the island coast.
