President Park Geun-hye visited a frontline Army unit on Wednesday to encourage soldiers and check their military readiness in light of the grave security conditions on the Korean Peninsula.

The visit came after North Korea fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile earlier in the day, raising concerns of further provocations amid increasing instability in the regime due to international sanctions.

The presidential office said Park expressed her deep trust in the military and firm will to respond to the North’s threats as commander-in-chief.

It marked her first visit to a military unit this year.
