The government is expected to lay out new measures next Thursday to address the nation's rapidly rising household debt.
According to related ministries and the Bank of Korea(BOK) on Thursday, Vice Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok will chair a meeting Friday to examine trends in household debt levels.
The meeting will assess the current debt situation and discuss response measures ahead of the BOK's announcement on second quarter figures on household credit expected next week.
BOK Governor Lee Ju-yeol said last week that the government implemented various measures to curb the increase of household debt but they have yet to produce tangible effects. The remark implied that household debt-related risks continue to exist.
The Friday meeting will be attended by the vice heads of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Financial Services Commission, the central bank and the Financial Supervisory Service, among other agencies.
