Samsung’s Global Mobile DRAM Market Share Hits All-time High

Samsung Electronics' share in the global mobile dynamic random access memory, or DRAM, market has hit a new all-time high.

According to market researcher DRAM Exchange on Wednesday, the tech giant’s market share increased one-point-one percentage points quarter-on-quarter to 61-point-five percent in the second quarter of this year, the highest point since chipmakers’ market shares for mobile DRAM began to be compiled.

It also posted mobile DRAM sales of nearly two-point-42 billion U.S. dollars during the same period, a 19-point-four percent jump from the previous quarter.

SK Hynix, another South Korean chipmaker, earned 998 million U.S. dollars in sales and placed second with a global market share of 25-point-one percent.

As a result, their combined share came to 86-point-seven percent, overwhelming rivals from the U.S. and Taiwan.

U.S.-based Micron Technology ranked third with an eleven-point-four percent share.
