North Korea has reportedly ordered its diplomatic missions abroad to step up propaganda against the planned deployment of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense(THAAD) system in South Korea.
According to a source familiar with North Korea affairs on Monday, the North’s Foreign Ministry issued propaganda guidelines regarding the THAAD deployment to all of its diplomatic missions abroad.
The guidelines call the planned THAAD deployment a provocation against the North as well as a security threat in Northeast Asia. They also ordered North Korean diplomats to strategically carry out propaganda activities to create situations favorable for the North.
The source said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered government and party officials to highlight the perceived U.S.’ scheme to boost its military strength and fan a confrontational structure of South Korea, the U.S., and Japan versus China and Russia. The source said the order was issued shortly after Seoul and Washington announced their decision to deploy the advanced missile defense system in the South.
In line with such orders, North Korean diplomats, government and party officials dispatched to China and Southeast Asia are said to be exerting active efforts to create sentiment against the THAAD deployment.
