Tesla Motors, a global leader in electric car manufacturing, will make inroads into South Korea.
South Koreans are expected to be able to purchase electric cars at Tesla stores in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province and the Gangnam area in Seoul from around November.
According to market insiders Thursday, the U.S. firm is discussing with Shinsegae Group officials details over opening a store at the outdoor shopping mall, Starfield Hanam in Gyeonggi Province, which will open next month.
A Shinsegae Group official also confirmed that a Tesla store will open in the shopping mall but said that it would be difficult to open the store in line with the opening of the shopping mall next month. He said the store is expected to open no later than November.
Founded in 2003, Tesla Motors designs and manufactures premium electric vehicles. Tesla's Roadster and the Model S are regarded to have ushered in the era of electric cars.
Its latest sedan with an affordable price tag, the Model 3, which was released early this year, has drawn great popularity around the world. The firm has already received more than 370-thousand orders for the model.
