Consumer Price Growth Hits 10-Month Low in July

South Korea’s consumer prices posted the lowest on-year growth in ten months due to persistently low oil prices.

Statistics Korea said on Tuesday that the nation’s consumer price index in July inched up by zero-point-seven percent from the same month last year.

It marks the smallest on-year consumer price growth since a zero-point-six percent growth in September 2015.

The consumer price growth hovered above one percent between February and April, but fell below the one-percent level for the three following months beginning May.

The price of oil and related products tumbled eight-point-nine percent on-year in July, dragging down the overall consumer price by zero-point-38 percentage points.

The price of agricultural products also fell by four percent, while utility fees, such as electricity, water and gas, dropped by three-point-nine percent.

Prices of services, however, grew one-point-nine percent, uplifting the consumer price by one-point-zero-five percentage points.
