The cumulative number of passengers going through Incheon International Airport has topped 500 million for the first time since its opening in 2001.
The Incheon International Airport Corporation says the airport’s daily passenger count hit a record high on Monday at an estimated 201-thousand-79 amid the summer vacation season in full swing.
Airport authorities said that once the construction of the airport's second passenger terminal is completed at the end of next year, the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity will expand to around 72 million.
Only seven other airports in the world, including the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai International Airport and Britain’s Heathrow Airport, are known to have an annual international passenger handling capacity exceeding 50 million.
