Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Il-ho has stressed that the government, in accordance with laws and principles, will sternly deal with unionized workers at conglomerates who have recently gone on strike.
Yoo made the emphasis during a meeting of economy-related ministers in Seoul on Wednesday.
Yoo said he is deeply concerned about the strikes as they come amid the people's active efforts to address the ramifications from corporate restructuring.
He said the walkouts will fail to win public sympathy as they will hamper an economic recovery and further escalate employment uncertainties for subcontractors and nonregular workers who are suffering more hardships than conglomerates.
Yoo said the government will thoroughly provide special employment support to workers who are rocked by the corporate restructuring drive and devise support measures by next month for areas that are expected to be hit hard.
