The number of daily takeoffs and landings at Incheon International Airport surpassed the one-thousand mark for the first time.
Incheon International Airport Corporation said on Tuesday that the airport recorded a total of one-thousand-20 takeoffs and landings on Sunday and that its passenger count also hit a record high of 188-thousand-263.
The daily average number of takeoffs and landings stood at 312 when the airport opened in 2001. The figure grew an annual average of seven percent to 901 this year.
This year, the number of passengers jumped 26-point-five percent on-year as the peak summer season began, with flights taking off or landing every minute.
According to the airport operator, there are 30 airports in 14 countries that operate more than one-thousand takeoffs and landings a day on average. Excluding the United States, which has a lot of domestic flights, the number drops to 15 in 13 countries.
