The U.S. has decided to impose up to 48 percent anti-dumping duties on South Korea’s corrosion-resistant steel.
According to the Korea International Trade Association(KITA) on Thursday, the U.S. International Trade Commission(ITC) upheld the U.S. government’s conclusion that South Korean and four other nations' steel products are undercutting the U.S. steel industry with less than fair value and subsidies from their governments.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of Commerce(DOC) said based on its inspection in May, the U.S. needs to impose antidumping duties on corrosion-resistant steel from South Korea, China, India, Italy and Taiwan.
The DOC decided that Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel should be slapped 47-point-80 percent and eight-point-75 percent anti-dumping duties, respectively.
Another South Korean steelmaker POSCO was not included in the anti-dumping inspection by the DOC because the firm exports only a small quantity of the steel products to the U.S.
However, the company was known to have to pay 31-point-seven percent antidumping duties according to the ITC decision.
