Gov't to Ban High-Caffeine Drink Ads During Children's Programming

Starting this November, TV commercials for highly-caffeinated beverages will be restricted.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on Wednesday that it issued advance notice of a partial revision to regulations that strictly clamp down on advertisements of high-calorie foods and drinks with high levels of caffeine.

The revision is aimed at restricting TV commercials for beverages with high caffeine content, like coffee drinks, between 5 and 7 p.m. when popular children’s programs are broadcast.

Currently, there are around 100 such beverages sold nationwide. The food ministry plans to collect views on the revision until August 1st and implement the move in November.
