Japan condemned North Korea’s launch of ballistic missiles on Tuesday, calling it a move that threatens security.
Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters that the North’s missile launch is "very problematic behavior" from the perspective of ensuring the safety of aircraft and vessels.
He said Japan swiftly protested Tuesday’s missile launch via diplomatic channels in Beijing as the move violates UN Security Council(UNSC) resolutions, the Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration and statements reached during six-way nuclear talks.
Suga said Japan will closely work with South Korea and the United States in urging the North to refrain from engaging in further provocations and will maintain defense readiness to be prepared for any situation.
Tokyo's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said that Japan, which currently holds the UNSC's presidency, wants to express its view, hinting that it will seek to produce a Council resolution denouncing the North.
