“The THAAD deployment is an unpardonable atrocity that turns our land into a battlefield between world powers and leaves the fate of Korean people in the hands of foreign forces.”
In a spokesman’s statement, the North's Committee for Peaceful Unification of the Fatherland blamed South Korea for moving forward with the deployment of the THAAD battery.
Pyongyang accused Seoul of making a heinous, confrontational attempt to get rid of North Korea’s “treasure sword” of nuclear weapons.
It also asserted that the South will pay the price for turning the Korean Peninsula into a nuclear battlefield.
In the statement, the North also attempted to create internal conflict within the South, calling on the opposition forces in South Korea to stand up to the government’s deployment decision.
Seoul's Unification Ministry issued a statement in response, blaming the North Korean committee for its brazen claims and noting that THAAD is solely a defensive measure to counter nuclear and missile threats from Pyongyang.
The Defense Ministry warned the regime will only face tough retaliation if it continues provocations.
In a statement carried through the North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) earlier this week, the North's military threatened to launch "physical action" against THAAD when its location is determined.
