Report: North Korea has threatened to take physical action against the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense(THAAD) battery in South Korea.
The North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) on Monday carried a statement by the artillery bureau of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.
In the first official response following Friday's announcement for the planned THAAD deployment, North Korea threatened that it will launch measures as soon as the decision is made for the location of the advanced missile defense battery.
In the so-called "grave warning," the North also vowed merciless retaliation, saying it has already placed all military facilities in its target scope.
While calling THAAD an American means for hegemony, it also warned the South that bringing in the U.S. anti-missile system will quicken its self-destruction.
The announcement came three days after Seoul and Washington announced their joint decision for the U.S. troops' deployment of the missile interception system on the Korean Peninsula.
The allied forces said that THAAD is necessary to deal with growing North Korean nuclear and ballistic missile threats.
