A North Korean military official known as a top financial manager to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appears to have been promoted.
The North’s ruling Workers’ Party’s official Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday carried a photo showing Han Kwang-sang wearing the badge of a two-star general, which is higher than his previous rank as a brigadier general.
Han was seen making a public appearance for the first time in seven months since November 27th last year when he accompanied Kim Jong-un during a visit to a shoe factory in Wonsan. Han was a brigadier general at the time.
In 2013, Han was promoted to director of the finance and accounting department under the Workers’ Party, but he was known to have been purged for corruption allegations later.
However, Han was included on a list of top officials that accompanied Kim during the funeral of the North’s first generation military leader Ri Ul-sol in November last year. He accompanied Kim three times that month.
Han, however, failed to be named an alternate member of the party’s central committee at the party congress held in May.
