Sales of foreign vehicles in South Korea slightly decreased last month despite the government’s cut in excise taxes on cars.
The Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said on Wednesday that a total of 23-thousand-435 units of imported cars were registered last month, down three-point-five percent on-year. The June figure, however, represents an increase of 20-point-four percent from a month earlier.
Cumulative sales of foreign cars in the first half of the year decreased two-point-six percent on-year to about 116-thousand units.
German brands dominated the domestic market. BMW came in first by selling four-thousand-820 cars in June, followed by Mercedes-Benz with four-thousand-535, Audi with two-thousand-812 and Volkswagen with one-thousand-834.
Japanese car brands Lexus and Toyota sold one-thousand-276 and one-thousand-165, respectively.
