Torrential downpours pounded the nation on Tuesday, with the central region bearing the brunt of the showers.
The downpour displaced 210 people across the nation, while some bridges in Seoul were forced to close.
Seoul City’s disaster and safety management headquarters closed the entire section of the Cheonggye Stream and blocked people from entering. A section of the Dongbu Expressway and the Jamsu Bridge over the Han River were closed off on Tuesday morning.
In Gyeonggi Province, Gapyeong had 242 millimeters of rain while Uijeongbu received 223 millimeters as of noon, causing flood damage. Farmlands in North Chungcheong Province were soaked and inundated as the region received nearly 200 millimeters of precipitation.
Heavy rainfall also hit Gangwon Province, with 262 millimeters falling in Misiryeong Pass. In Jeongseon, four people are reported to be missing after being swept away by a rain-swollen river when their car crashed from a bridge.
In Seoul, up to 180 millimeters of rain fell from Monday night. The Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) forecast that the central region will receive an additional 150 millimeters of rain through Wednesday.
