The World Trade Organization(WTO) has accepted Japan’s request to form a panel tasked with overseeing a dispute regarding antidumping duties imposed by South Korea on Japanese pneumatic valves.
 
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in Seoul said Tuesday that the WTO set up the panel during a special meeting of its dispute settlement body, which was held in Geneva on Monday.

The formation of the panel marks the commencement of an antidumping suit at the WTO.
 
South Korea, however, can choose to appeal the panel's decision.
 
In March, Tokyo asked Seoul to discuss the antidumping duties on the valves based on a WTO pact. But the two sides failed to narrow differences in negotiations held on April 28th.
 
Japan then requested the WTO to establish a panel looking into the South Korean decision to maintain its tariffs, accusing Seoul of violating the WTO pact.
