The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has entered emergency mode with a sudden influx in the number of damage reports from the heavy rain.
Official estimates show that about 400 hectares of farmland and greenhouses were flooded in five cities and counties in South Chungcheong Province.
In Daejeon, two houses and five greenhouses located in a low-lying region were inundated.
In Sejong, ten hectares of farmland were flooded while some commercial buildings and an elementary school were damaged by a mudslide.
Four-thousand-700 local government and antidisaster officials have been mobilized to tackle the damage and prevent further related incidents.
The antidisaster headquarters decided to conduct emergency checks in two-thousand-700 areas that are deemed vulnerable to landslides or rockslides. It will also step up efforts to ensure safety near reservoirs and steep slopes.
Twenty-six-thousand sets of relief supplies are ready to be shipped out to regions hit hard by the downpours.
