Foreigners Buy Nearly 4 Trln Won Worth Stocks in S. Korea in 1st Half

Foreign investors have net purchased nearly four trillion won worth of South Korean stocks in the first half of this year.

According to the Korea Exchange(KRX) on Monday, foreign nationals picked up three-point-42 billion dollars' more worth of stocks from the main bourse KOSPI and the tech-heavy KOSADQ than they dumped onto the markets in the January to June period.

The KRX said foreign investors bought a net 14-point-983-billion dollars worth of stocks from Asian stock markets, excluding China and Japan, during the same period.

Since 2012, foreign investors had purchased more stocks in Asia than they sold, but they net sold three-point-233-billion dollars' worth of stocks in the region last year.

Taiwan was the hottest market in Asia for foreigners this year, with foreign investors net buying six-point-245-billion dollars of Taiwanese stocks in the January to June period.

Foreigners dumped 540 million dollars of Asian stocks on June 24th following Britain’s decision to leave the European Union(EU). However, they immediately began to scoop up Asian stocks again, buying a net 579 million dollars of shares for five trading days last week.
