Nation Affected by Heavy Rain from Monsoon Front

A seasonal monsoon front delivered heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in South Korea Friday, causing some damages across the country.

In the nation's southern region, 38 flights were canceled and 37 flights were delayed.

A control center official at Gimhae International Airport cited difficulties in the departure and landing of planes as the inclement weather reduced visibility to below 400 meters, while it should be at least 550 meters.

In the central region, heavy rain advisories were issued in 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province as of 3:30 p.m.

An official at the Korea Meteorological Administration said that 30 to 40 millimeters of rain per hour are expected in some regions. It urged people to take extra care of facilities located near rivers and streams in urban areas.
