Industrial Output Rebounds in May on Eased Decline in Exports

South Korea's industrial output rebounded in May to mark its biggest expansion in 15 months.

According to Statistics Korea on Thursday, industrial output rose one-point-seven percent on-month in May. It is the highest increase in 15 months since growing one-point-nine percent in February last year.

Industrial output had expanded zero-point-seven percent each in February and March but fell zero-point-eight percent in April.

The coincident composite index, which shows the current state of the economy, edged up zero-point-two percentage point from the previous month.

The statistics office attributed the rebound to the eased pace of declines in exports of semiconductors and automobiles as well as growth in mining and manufacturing output. A temporary holiday in May, meanwhile, appears to have pushed up domestic consumption.
