Public Safety Ministry Warns against Possible Dam Release by North

South Korea's Ministry of Public Safety and Security has warned against a sudden release of water by North Korea from its Hwanggang Dam.

The ministry urged citizens on Tuesday to refrain from fishing or camping along the Imjin River as it may be dangerous if water from the dam is suddenly released when it is full.

The Hwanggang Dam is located about 42 kilometers north of the Military Demarcation Line. It has been reported that the North has been maintaining the dam at near full levels since last month.

If released, it takes 30 minutes for the water from the Hwanggang Dam to reach the Gunnam Dam in the South.
