Indices Gauging Sentiment See Lowest Level in 4 Months

Indices measuring consumers' assessments over economic conditions at present and for the next six months slipped to their lowest level in four months.

The Bank of Korea announced on Tuesday that the nation’s composite consumer sentiment index(CCSI) for June stood at 99, the same level as May.

The index had jumped from 98 in February to 100 in March and 101 in April. But the figure fell to 99 in May after the government launched active corporate restructuring efforts.

A CCSI reading above the benchmark 100 means that consumers' outlook for the economy is more optimistic than the average long-term sentiment measured between 2003 and 2015.

The central bank added that an index measuring people’s assessment over current economic conditions fell two points from May to 68 in June and another index gauging people's sentiments over economic conditions in the six months ahead slipped two points to 78. Both indices marked the lowest level in four months.
