Hanwha Begins Shipping K9 Hulls to Poland

South Korean defense manufacturer Hanwha Techwin has begun to mass produce hulls of K9 self-propelled howitzers and shipped six hulls to Poland.

The arms producer signed a deal with Poland’s state-run defense contractor HSW in December 2014 to supply 120 units of the K9’s hull to the Polish Army.

HSW will attach its own turret to the hulls to produce the Krab self-propelled gun.

A Hanwha official said that as the firm begins to mass produce the K9, it is attracting attention from the European market, adding it would have positive effects on the firm’s marketing efforts in northern Europe and the Middle East.

K9 howitzers with a range of 40 kilometers were jointly produced by Hanwha Techwin and the Agency for Defense Development in 1998 and deployed in 2000.
