Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn has called for elevating the added value of the construction industry through continued technological developments and innovation. He also called for creating new construction demand by utilizing artificial intelligence and the Internet of things(IoT).

Giving congratulatory remarks at an event marking this year's Korea Construction Day in Seoul on Friday, the prime minister said the domestic building sector faces a major turning point in order to make another leap forward.

He said based on the accumulated expertise of South Korean builders combined with the nation's world-class information and communications capacity and convergence technologies, South Korea can gain a foothold in new global markets in advance.

He also promised government support for the technological advancement of the construction sector in the areas of fostering talent, research and development, bold regulatory reform and the establishment of a fair market order.
