Gov't Finalizes Plan on Nat'l Railway Systems

The government will inject 70 trillion won into projects on building national railway networks for the next ten years.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that it finalized during a meeting on Friday a plan on establishing national railway systems which was unveiled earlier in February.

The ministry plans to pursue, as planned, building the second stage of the Honam rapid transit network and a project on building rapid transit systems in the metropolitan area. The ministry also plans to provide rapid transit services in Suwon, Incheon and Uijeongbu, where demand is high for such services.

The ministry will also newly establish a rapid transit network linking Pyeongtaek and Osong.

With the plan, the percentage of the population that uses rapid transit services will likely jump from the current 46 percent to 60 percent in a decade.
