Gov't to Install Solar Panels on Rooftops of 2,000 Schools

The government will install solar power generators on the rooftops of around two-thousand elementary, middle and high schools nationwide by next year.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Thursday that it is launching the solar power project with an investment of some 400 billion won.

Also on Thursday, the ministry held a ceremony to mark the designation of Sudo Electric Technical High School in Seoul as the very first school to be installed with the solar panels.

With an average 200 million won expected to be invested per school for the project, as many as two-thousand schools are expected to benefit from it.

An average school pays about 40 million won in electricity bills annually. Those equipped with solar panels are expected to save about ten percent of the bill.
