S. Korea’s Ad Market is 6th Largest in OECD

New data shows that South Korea’s advertisement market is the sixth largest among member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD).

According to a report by the Korea Advertisers Association, advertising expenses amounted to eleven-point-eight billion U.S. dollars in South Korea last year to rank sixth following the U.S., Japan, Germany, the U.K. and France.

The South Korean advertisement market posted a growth of about two percent in 2012 and 2013. But it expanded by five-point-four percent in 2014 and six-point-two percent in 2015, surpassing the growth rate of the nation’s gross domestic product.

The nation’s top ten advertisers accounted for 14 percent of the country's total advertisement spending. South Korea's combined rate is far higher than ten-point-nine percent in the U.S. and six-point-five percent in Japan, the world’s largest and second largest advertisement markets.

Last year, South Korea's top ten advertisers were Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics, KT, SK Telecom, LG U-Plus, GM Korea, Procter & Gamble and Amore Pacific.
