The government's tax revenue increased 18-point-one trillion won from January to April this year compared to the same period a year ago.
According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's June fiscal trend report published Friday, the government collected 96-point-nine trillion won in taxes during the first four months of 2016, up from 78-point-eight trillion won gathered last year.
The ratio of actual tax collected versus the government's target was 43-point-five percent, up seven percentage points from a year ago.
By sector, corporate tax increased five-point-six trillion won to 23-point-five trillion won.
Income tax rose three-point-nine trillion won to 21 trillion won due to an increase in real estate transactions and a rise in nominal wages.
The fiscal balance returned to a surplus after two months of deficit due to an increase in the tax revenue.
Total revenue, including non-tax revenue, came to 150-point-eight trillion while total expenditure amounted to 146-point-six trillion won.
