Domestic Construction Orders Up 11% YoY in April

Domestic construction orders in South Korea rose ten-point-nine percent year-on-year to over 12 trillion won in April.

According to the Construction Association of Korea on Thursday, orders in the public sector declined 39 percent on-year to a little over two trillion won while private sector orders jumped 34 percent to over nine-point-nine trillion won.

Civic engineering work requests increased 124 percent compared to the same month last year while requests for the construction of housing and commercial facilities grew 30 percent.

The association noted that despite the planned early execution of the government budget, public sector orders continue to drop, leading to growing financial woes of medium and small-sized builders. It called for government measures to address the situation.
