South Korea’s net cosmetics production topped the ten-trillion won mark for the first time last year, jumping nearly 20 percent from the previous year.
According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on Wednesday, the country’s cosmetics production reached a record ten-point-seven trillion won last year, or roughly nine-point-three billion U.S. dollars, up 19-point-six percent year-on-year.
The nation’s cosmetics exports came to two-point-six billion dollars last year, jumping almost 44 percent on-year. The rise is higher than the average annual growth of 34 percent in the past five years.
The country’s cosmetics imports, however, increased a mere three-point-eight percent to a little over one billion dollars during the cited period.
Accordingly, the country’s trade surplus in the industry almost doubled on-year to one-and-a-half billion dollars.
China was the biggest importer of South Korean cosmetics in 2015, importing more than one billion dollars' worth.
