RFA: N. Korea Forcibly Summoned Striking Workers in Kuwait

Radio Free Asia(RFA) said Wednesday that North Korea forcibly summoned dozens of North Korean workers at a construction site in Kuwait after they staged a walkout.

According to the report, the North Koreans went on strike last December in protest of a proposal to give them money orders instead of monthly wages.

The report said that the North resumed operations of Air Koryo flights between Pyongyang and Kuwait, which had been suspended on February 23rd, and urgently summoned the workers on May 17th.

RFA said that earlier in March, workers of a North Korean construction firm lodged a collective protest and called for monthly wages to be paid on time when they were told by a firm official to work hard to earn foreign currency ahead of the seventh congress of the North’s ruling party.
