Rice Consumption Decreases in S. Korea

New data has shown that South Koreans’ daily consumption of rice decreased by three-point-three percent to 172 grams last year compared to 2014.
 
The figure indicates that South Koreans eat less than two bowls of rice a day, given that 100 to 120 grams of rice are usually in a bowl.
 
In 1985, each South Korean consumed about 128 kilograms of rice a year. But the rice consumption has dropped to less than 63 kilograms over the past 30 years.
 
By contrast, the annual consumption of barley, wheat, beans and other minor cereals increased one-point-one percent to eight-point-eight kilograms from 2014.
 
The consumption of all types of grains including rice came to 71-point-seven kilograms in 2015, down two-point-eight percent from a year earlier.
