A South Korean civic group consisting of North Korean defectors says it has sent leaflets across the border into North Korea denouncing the North's sudden discharge of water on the Imjin River.
Fighters for a Free North Korea said they flew ten huge balloons toward North Korea near the Imjingak Pavilion and peace park in Paju, Gyeonggi Province at around 7 a.m. Saturday.
The group said the balloons were carrying 300-thousand leaflets, two-thousand one U.S. dollar bills and one-thousand USBs and DVDs.
Chairman of Fighters for a Free North Korea Park Sang-hak blasted the North for discharging large amounts of water from a dam in the North into the Imjin River that flows across the inter-Korean border into the South. The sudden release of water without prior notice last week swept away nets and other equipment belonging to South Korean fishermen. He said Pyongyang was also threatening South Korea with nuclear weapons.
Park said the flying of leaflets was to inform the North Korean people about the Group of Seven summit held in Japan Friday.
