S. Korea's Net Investment Position Surpasses $200 Bln

South Korea’s net international investment has surpassed 200 billion dollars for the first time.

According to data released Wednesday by the Bank of Korea, the country’s net international investment position(NIIP) stood at 215-point-eight billion dollars as of the end of March.

It has increased by 20-point-six billion dollars from the end of last year and marks the first time to grow beyond 200 billion dollars since the central bank began tracking related data in 1994.

The NIIP indicates South Korean investment overseas minus foreign investment in South Korea.

The country’s investment overseas amounted to one-trillion-167-point-four billion dollars as of the end of March, up by 32-point-five billion dollars from the end of last year.

Foreign investment in Korea tallied at 951-point-five billion dollars as of March, increasing 11-point-nine billion dollars in three months.

The foreign investment in South Korea includes indirect investment through securities, such as stocks, bonds and derivatives financial products.
