N. Korea Continues Military Talks Proposal

North Korea has repeated its proposal to hold inter-Korean military talks.

The Defense Ministry said the North sent another invitation over the military hotline on the western front at around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

The ministry said that the message by the North Korean Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces was similar to the message that came last Saturday, which called for working-level meetings later this month or in early June.

Seoul’s Defense Ministry again rejected the proposal, reiterating that the North must first take denuclearization steps before holding any talks. It added that military talks that rule out denuclearization issues is a typical sham peace offensive.

The ministry added that if the North sincerely wants peace, it must show its sincerity towards giving up its nuclear program through actions.
