Chairman Kim Chong-in of the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea has stressed the need to shift the focus of the country’s economic policy from conglomerates to small firms and sole proprietors in order to create jobs.
Kim presented the view on Tuesday during a discussion with chiefs of local governments elected on the party's ticket on employment policy at the National Assembly.
The opposition chief said that the government is moving to inject money into the economy to increase jobs, but that the idea is unlikely to be realized given sluggish investment by large companies.
Kim said that the central government should revise its budget structure to create jobs, calling for increasing the tax burden rate, which is the ratio of total taxes as a percentage of the gross domestic product, from 18 percent to 21 percent as in the past.
