S. Korea Dismisses N. Korea's Offers of Dialogue

South Korea has dismissed a recent series of offers of dialogue by North Korea as a stale rhetoric, calling instead for the North’s sincere attitude on its denuclearization.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Cho June-hyuck said on Tuesday during a regular news briefing that the North is employing its typical “peace offensive” strategy by making conciliatory gestures toward the South without addressing the nuclear issue, which poses a threat to peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Cho said that the Seoul government’s position remains firm that the North’s denuclearization should come first before any inter-Korean dialogue.

He urged North Korea to halt making threats and waging provocations and display its commitment to denuclearize with specific actions.
