Gov't, Ruling Party to Discuss Measures for Possible Massive Layoffs

The government and the ruling Saenuri Party will hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss measures regarding corporate restructuring of the shipping and shipbuilding industries.

The meeting comes after Saenuri Floor Leader Chung Jin-suk visited Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province on Monday to collect views of workers in the shipbuilding industry about the restructuring.

Chung said that special measures for workers who are laid off should be implemented along with the corporate restructuring and vowed efforts to ensure the government will produce and implement such measures.

The government and the party are expected to discuss ways to carry out effective restructuring and measures for possible massive layoffs.
